So Dean got his first cold. Yesterday he started getting a stuffy nose and being clammy. Then last night he started getting really fussy. Then at about 1am(yes he was awake all night long) he started coughing. So this morning I called the doctors office to let them know he had a cold and to see if they wanted to check him out and they said they did. so we just got back from his appointment and the doctor said that it seems to just be a run of the mill cold and it could last 7-10 days. OH YAY! So now we are just waiting it out. He weighted in at 16 pounds and 9 ounces. So I also spoke with his doctor to see if he is doing okay since in my book he seems rather large. She said that if we put him in a room with 100 babies that were the same age as him he would by far be the largest, rofl. He is off the charts with him weight and hight. That's my boy! But she did say since he is large fo both weight and hight then he is okay and he body is even.

Well Dean got baptized today. I was so wonderful! Dean's Great Grandpa Jess and Great Gramdma Thelia came. Dean's uncle Cody and Nana came as well. Aleshia Woolfrey, my best friend and Jason Thomas Dave's best friend are now Dean's God Parents. They both were so happy to accept the role.
Thursday night Dean came down with a fever so I called the doctors office and they said give him some tylenol and bring him in first thing in the morning. So Friday morning I took him to the doctors office and they expressed some concern due to his age. They said to come back on Saturday morning and that they would be in touch with me throughout the day on Friday to make sure nothing is wrong. So I went home and the doctors office called at about noon and said they wanted him to get his blood drawn to make sure there was nothing wrong. So I took his temp and he had a fever again and so I called the docs back and made an appointment for him at 1:45. SO I took him to te Hospital to get his blood drawn and it took then three pokes to get his blood. Then we went straight back to the doctors office. We were there for 2 hours waiting for the blood work to come back. All the blood work that we could get back that day came back fine and totally normal. So the doctor said to coem back for my appointment that I had on Saturday to check back in. So Friday night at about 10:30 I took Dean's temp and it was back up to 101.7. So I called the doctor and he said go to the ER and get a Urine test done. So we went down there and they took his urine to run a culture on it and tried to draw some more blood for another round of tests. There were two OB nurses ad an NICU traveling nurse that tried a combined total of seven pokes and no one got the IV in and no one got any blood. SO then the ER doctor came in and drew his blood and did not get an IV in. So at about 2am they got the urine results back and they were positive for an infection. So the pedi doctor said we needed to admit Dean for further testing and better medications. So at about 4am on Saturday we finally got to the room and I fell asleep at about 5:30am. At 6am the nurses work me to start trying more testing on Dean and try to get an IV in him because they wanted to administer his anti-biotics via IV instead of IM. So they had more nurses come in and try another 5 times to get an IV in and NADA. No dice. So, then we got his blood culture results back and they were also positive for bacteria. They doctor then came to the hospital to look at the cultures herself to make sure they were of the same make up. They were. So then come Saturday night they did a spinal Tap on Dean and drew some of his spinal fluids to check for spinal meningitis. That came back negative, YAY!. So then Sunday the anastisiologist came in to sedate him to try to get the IV in because at that time it was critical that he get his meds through an IV. They tied two times to put the IV into his head and the another two time in the side of his neck. Still no IV. So then the doctor decided to transfer him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where they have a top notch NICU/Peds unit. So Sunday we went via ambulance to SRMH and on the way Deans O2 Saturation dropped to a dangerous level of 50%. We had to put him on oxygen and that still wasnt getting his level up and he wasnt being able to hold it up him self. So I finally got it stable without the help from the darn EMT who just sat there. The Driver of the ambulance had to pull over so I could get it under control. Nice right? So we got to the hospital and they started doing more tests right off the bat. He had an ultra sound done Sunday along with more people trying to get the IV in. No one could do it. Monday came with more people trying to get blood and the IV in. They finally came to terms with the fact that the IV was not going to happen. Tuesday they did one blood draw that took three pokes along with an x-ray of his bladder to see if his urine "refluxed" back into his kidneys. Everything came back negitive along with a second urine culture they did. SO now we are home and have to go to the doctors office every morning for the next ten days for him to get his medication via Im (intramusclular). Then oral meds for four days after that. Thank GOD we are home!
Well the past 24 hours have been long, very long! Last night when I was getting Dean ready for bed I noticed he felt warm. So I took his temp and it was 101.6! So I called the doctors office since there is no directions on how much Tylenol to give to a 6 week old. So the doctor said give him .5ml every six hours and bring him in first thig in the morning. So I called this morning and made an appt to see the doctor at 9:45am. We went in and his temp was 100.0 . The docs were rather concerned since he is under 8 weeks, he dosnt have a strong immune system yet. So she said dont give him Tylenol and I want you to keep a close eye on him and call if anything gets worse and come back first thing tomorrow. So we went home and about 2 hours later the doctor called and said she and his other doctor decided they wanted to do some blood work on him. So, I took his temp and it was 100.4 and then I took him to the hospital to get his blood drawn and then we had to be back to the doctors office at 1:45. We sat at the doctors office for 2 hours wait for all of the blood work to come back from the lab. Everything checked out fine except his inflammation count was a bit elevated, but nothing to big. So, we went home with still no answers and a baby with a fever. So I have to take his temp every hour and monitor it closely and call the doctor on call tonight if anything changes. So thats where I am right now, I;ll update tomorrow hopefully with some good news.
So we went to the doctors office again today. We think we finally got him figured out! Doctor believes that Dean has reflux. So we got him put on Pepsid. We will start that tomorrow and see if it helps!
Well Dean's one month doctors appointment went great! Doctor was very pleased. Only one thing the matter and that is Dean's belly button. I told everyone I thought it was herniated but no one believed me, and sure enough, it is herniated. Doctor said it doesn't hurt him but if it isn't better by the time he is four or if at any time it gets worse he will need surgery. Yikes!! Lets say our prayers it heals it self.
Quick update! Dean and I went to WIC on Friday to let WIC know that my milk totally dried up and that he is needing to be on formula 100% now. But of corse i forgot the breast pump and the lady was a total witch! Anyone Dave brought the pump down so we could get the checks for formula. But, they made us switch formulas again. Which I knew might happen. They said that studies have shown that boy babies that are on soy formula tend to grow boobies. So they want him on a lactose free non soy formula. So he is taking Enfamil's LactoFree. He is take very well to it. I think it is way better than the soy. He has so much less gas now! Okay, well appointment is on the 17th so we will check back in then. XOXO
