Week 6
posted on 07/22/2007
Nate and I found out that we were pregnant on Thursday, July 19th. Our expected due date is March 17th, 2008. That puts me at about 6 weeks right now. I'm going to try to put at least one update each week on here, at least stating what's happening in my body right now.
Baby's Development-
By the end of the week, your baby is about the size of a small bean. If you could see inside yourself, you'd find a large head and dark spots where the eyes and nostrils are beginning to form. The emerging ears are marked and the arms and legs look like protruding buds. The hands and feet are shaped like paddles, and fingers are beginning to form even now. The heart has divided into the right and left chambers and is beating about 150 times a minute - roughly twice the rate of an adult heart.
Things Daddy Can Do To Help Mommy
If mom is experiencing morning sickness or other physical symptoms during week 6 of pregnancy, here are a few ways that you can help:
- Keep "trigger" foods and smells away from mom
- Encourage her to eat a healthy diet and to drink plenty of fluids
- Put saltine crackers or pretzels near the bed to ward off queasiness
- Suggest that mom rest while you take on more chores around the house
- Use a cool washcloth on her face or neck
Nate and I are both pretty scared at this point in the pregnancy. I think this is mainly due to this not being planned at all. We're dealing with it though, and we will make this work. Things will be ok.
